Las Vegas is already starting its plans and preparations for the Annual Academy of Country Music Awards that will be taking place on May 18th 2008 at the MGM Grand. The Academy of Country Music had staged its annual award show in Las Vegas for the last five editions. Over the last four decades, the show have been held in a series of locations, including the Goodtime Theatre at Knott's Berry Farm, the Universal Amphitheatre, but in 2003, the organization decided to relocate the show in Las Vegas where it has stayed in ever since. In 1972 the awards show was broadcast for the first time on national television, putting the Awards broadcast among the most popular programs ever since.
"Las Vegas is an ideal place for the Academy to showcase country music's best and we couldn't be happier to have the show on a Sunday night," said Bob Romeo, Executive Director of the Academy of Country Music. "We look forward to returning to the MGM Grand for the show and -- as has become our tradition -- we have multiple nights of country music scheduled on Fremont Street, a star-studded Motorcycle Ride and our world famous post awards concert, the All-Star Jam. It is truly Country's Night To Shine"
Previous ceremonies held at Las Vegas hosted performances from Carrie Underwwood, Keith Urban, Kenny Chesney, Brooks and Dunn, Big & Rich, Rascal Flatts and other country superstars. This is the first year the Academy of Country Music Awards will take place on a Sunday, the third year the show will be based at MGM Grand and the sixth year the show will be held in Las Vegas. The awards show will be broadcast live on the CBS Television Network, information about the host, award nominees and performers will be announced later. Country music's biggest stars are ready to shine in Las Vegas; tickets are available if you want to be there in person to see some of the biggest country artists performing live on stage in the 43rd Academy of Country Music Awards.
