The Professor showed his mates why he is one of the best poker players at any table and in ant tournament. At the largest-buy-in event of the 2008 Aussie Millions some of the biggest names took their seats to kick off the $100,000 No-Limit Hold'Em event. Last year's winner, Erick Lindgren, joined 2007 Aussie Millions Main Event champion Gus Hansen. WSOP bracelets winner Phil Ivey and Erik Seidel, as well as Tony G, Howard Lederer, Chris 'Jesus' Ferguson and Masaaki Kagawa. The online poker superstars were thick in the field as well, with Michael 'Timex' McDonald, Tom 'durrr' Dwan and Jeff 'ActionJeff' Garza among those on hand.
Lederer showed why he is
still one of the premier players as he outlasted an elite field of 25 top pros,
including fellow Team Full
Tilt Poker members, Lederer patiently waited for the best chances to make
his moves and slowly accumulated chips, taking the chip lead with just three
competitors remaining, and started heads-up play with a 2-1 chip lead over
second-place finisher Mark Teltscher. In the end, Howard Lederer
had slowly but surely built up the lead at final table. After playing a little
bit less then an hour of Heads Up, “The Professor” claims victory against Mark Teltscher
($ 650k for runner up). The last hand gave Lederer the second largest win in
Aussie Millions history for $1.25 million and the trophy for Event #9 by
busting Teltscher with the higher two pair.
