Definitely Las Vegas is a city that has seen it all. The
stars and producers of the U.S adult film industry invaded Las Vegas during the weekend for the “Oscars
of Porn”. The AVN Awards mark a milestone for the adult industry, which
celebrated with the AVN Awards 25th anniversary this year. Celebrities
were everywhere at the AVN events. It was the first time that more conventional
stars such as Vegas headliners Criss Angel and Carrot
Top joined
with rockers Gene Simmons and Dave
Navarro to present the mind-numbing 116 awards for Best Sex
scenes in a multitude of categories and positions. You know how mainstream its
become when Eddie Van Halen won the Best Music award for his
score of Sacred Sin (18 nominations) which he also co-produced. The award show
took place at the Mandalay
Bay event center and the
after party crowded the JET nightclub with all sorts of invited guest, porn
actors and actresses ever seen in town as well as the most stunning hostesses
provided by Penthouse magazine, who flavored the Las Vegas nightlife with their own sense of style.
The event held at the Mandalay Bay was completed with an enthusiastic
audience of more than 5,000 after a red carpet arrival of scantily dressed
performers. In their 25th year, the awards have become the industry's top
celebration, dubbed the AVN Awards, and were recorded to be broadcast on cable
television's Showtime, a division of CBS Corp.
"It's a thankless
business," said Evan Stone, 43, who won best actor. "You don't get a
lot of feedback on constant basis" Added Tera Patrick, the award's co-host: "That's why we should
be celebrated for all the hard work that we do."
"The movies that win
certainly get a bump in sales, but it's more important for just the image of
the company and the brand to be known as the company that makes the best
movies," said Steven Hirsch, co-founder of Vivid, a leading studio in the adult film industry.
