Las Vegas InformationWhen a fire destroyed the historical Moulin Rouge hotel in 2003 everybody thought that that was the end for this important Las Vegas Hotel. But the name refuses to die and a group of investors and developers have plans to raise the Moulin Rouge from the dead. The Moulin Rouge Hotel is located in west Las Vegas and due its importance and cultural relevance, it was listed in the United States National Register of Historic Places.  The Moulin Rouge was first desegregated hotel and casino in Las Vegas and perhaps in the entire country; it was popular among many of the African American entertainers who were only allowed to perform in other hotels and casinos in the city.

The current plans to renovate and rebuild the famous hotel were already submitted for approval to local regulators, the plans contemplate to build 700 rooms, a convention and meeting hall, several restaurants, a concert theater, jazz center, retail shops and a casino area.

"We are in an area zoned for redevelopment, and we look at the Moulin Rouge as the catalyst to bring back West Las Vegas." said. Dale Scott, chief executive of the Moulin Rouge Development Corp

The total investment will could get to $1 billion, the Moulin Rouge counts with the city’s support to take West Las Vegas or Uptown into a more prosper era by creating a tourist friendly environment. The construction works could start next year with completion in late 2010.
