In every poker room, language is as spread out as much as the diversity, topics of discussion vary to so many degrees it’s literally crazy.  But like all situations in specific environments, there are things better off untold or unsaid. Here are a few topics I have realized should never cease to be said on the felt.

1. Dead People
Not only is it awkward, but it also can be emotion. Reminder: never let emotions get in your way, death is definitely emotional, and through several encounters and almost fights, I have concluded should be left outside the poker room.

2. Cheating on your spouse.
People gossip and the best story tellers are poker players. Trust me; bad beats stories are told over and over again on a daily basis.  If you leak out this information, many players will know you are a lying cheat. So if you would lie about your marriage and status, would you lie about hands and total giveaways? I think so. Cheating should definitely be left out of all conversation.

3. People’s Sexual Orientation.
It’s plain and simple: talking about homosexuality causes controversy. Try to decrease the amount of negative vibes in the air, thus don’t talk about homos, lesbos, or anything of that would offend someone’s sensibility. Also, avoid referring to other people as “woozy”, “panzy”, etc.

4. Politics.
Although its not to bad, politics I feel should be left out of any poker game, including online poker chats. I mean, no one cares if you talk about who wants to ban online poker or who's the candidate of your choice. So forget about it  Politics can get people angry and full of spite. Suggestion number 1: don’t bring up George Bush or Hilary and you’ll be okay.  Maybe some Abe Lincoln talk and that’s it.

5. Bad Beat stories

No one wants to hear them, so don’t try to convince the rest of the players that your story is different from the rest because it’s not, plain and simple. I mean crying and crying wont help resolve a darn thing so just tuck it in and move along with it.
