Online Poker InformationWhenever someone loses an item of there possession, there first instinct is to get it back as soon as possible.  This also applies for poker players; and majority of the online poker players.  When things get rough, don’t resort to the re-load button. To often have I witnessed a player take a bad beat, reload and then lose his reloaded money in seconds due to being on tilt.

This instinct to walk away takes a lot of courage.  It’s not easy to accept defeat, or "admit" you’re off.  I believe however, that the smartest poker strategy is the one who can recognize when times are getting rough or whenever he or she is experiencing a bad session.

So when is it time to stand up from a session?

Here are a few examples of when it might be time to click the "stand up" button and exit the virtual felt.

1. A bad beat: taking a bad beat often leaves players angry.  Sure they sucked out, but karma will get them back, thus you will win all your money right back right?  The answer is no.  Having this mentality proves that your not a stable person, or player. However, if the game feels right, and a bad beat doesn’t affect you in a negative manner, good luck and keep playing.

2. Odd Atmosphere/ Bad Environment: very easy to tell.  Even if the temperature doesn’t feel right, the way another player is looking at you, how the loud women continues to talk to the dealer, its still ok to recognize this as a bad poker element.  To surround you with a ton of negative elements will only make the session unbearable, and overall, very unpleasant.

3. Tensions Rise:  this is the hardest time to stand up and just be the bigger person. However whoever the braver man (or women is here) will usually walk away an instant winner. When your titled, it’s so easy for one to pick on you and leave you broke.

Patrik Antonius described in a magazine that I once read that taking bad online beats can do numbers to ones mental state.  He went on to talk about how he lost over 150 K when he held A-Q on a 3-Q-5-A board. The other guy rivers a king and reveals his set.

A few moments later Patrik deserved to win his money back, but the guy sucked out on him to prove A-3 can really beat A-Q.

When times get ruff, resort to something relaxing. Do not tell yourself that you want to win all that you lost back in five minutes.  It’s impossible: and overall this mentality is one of a loose cannon poker player.

Take this info and remember these tips. Leaving when the session heads south truly illustrates the quality of the player.
