Before his awaited trip
back to the Island of Macau, the Philippine boxer Manny Pacquiao will stay
in Las Vegas longer
than expected. According to Bob Arum, after the Pacquiao vs. Marquez fight tomorrow
night at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino, Pacquiao will return to Las
Vegas and the Mandalay
Bay Events
Center by the end of June
for his next fight against the WBC lightweight champion David Diaz. Pacquiao was
expected to fight David Diaz at the new Venetian casino in Macau, however, due
the importance of this fight, the organizers and promoters decided to change
the plans and re locate the fight back to Sin City.
Several months ago, Diaz
(33-1, 17 KOs) defeated and retired the famous
Erik Morales in defense of his belt. Now, the 31-year old finds himself in the
middle of the Manny “Pac Man” Pacquiao plans to conquer every boxing federation
title in his category. Diaz
will be fighting Ramon Montano as part of the Juan Manuel Marquez vs. Pacquiao under
card. If Diaz wins and Pacquiao defeats Marquez, the young Mexican-American is
guaranteed a well paid bag against the “The Pac Man”.
“If it happens, it’ll be a dream opportunity, but we both have to win. I think
Manny has a tough road ahead of him. I can’t discount a great fighter like Juan
Manuel Marquez. He could easily ruin everything.” said Diaz.
Pacquiao won six fights in
a row before meeting Marquez, who knows his potential after they clashed in the
ring about four years ago. Pacquiao will fight Nate Campbell in his return to Macau;
Campbell is a
36 year old boxer who became famous after defeating Joel Casamayor in 2003. Campbell also won his first title by defeating Juan Diaz
at Plaza de Toros in Cancun.
"The business that
Manny brings in is right up their alley, it's what they want here, and
(Mandalay Bay) really wanted to have the fight here at the end of June.'' said
Arum.
