transformer explosion near a Las Vegas Strip intersection caused a series of
unexpected inconveniences in four Las Vegas Hotels this Tuesday evening. Several casinos remained in the dark for several minutes,
the Mandalay
Bay, the Four Seasons, the Luxor Hotel
and Casino and the Excalibur
hotel all lost power. The hotel guests expressed that a loud explosion was
heard before all the lights went out, but back up generators kicked into high
gear quickly. The Clark County Fire Department said the explosion occurred
around 8:30 pm but the power was restored about 30 minutes after the power cut. The hotels’ generators are enough to generate power
for the main lobby and the casino floors, however, the hotel rooms and
elevators were in the dark for more than an hour, leaving several people stuck in
elevators for more than an hour. Scott Allison with Clark County Fire Department
said that no one was in danger.
"We've
been going with engineering with every hotel and every property and getting
people out of elevators. Otis Elevator is also here. That what we are doing
right now, our heavy rescue team is on scene as well as paramedics and
firefighters," said Allison.
