PartyPoker has
announced today the schedule and the list of participants for the 2008 edition
of the already famous PartyPoker Nations Cup. The tournament will be taking
place from April 7th to the 10th
and the teams invited are Great Britain,
Ireland, Sweden, Germany,
Holland and the United States. All the teams will
be competing for a $100,000 first prize and the international recognition as
the tournament champs. Every team will feature a total of five players, four
professional poker players and a VIP qualifier. The tournament will consist of
six heats and each team will demonstrate which representation is the best
before going to the final round in where the chip counts directly depends on the
previous results.
"The
array of talent on display for the 2008 Party Poker Poker Nations Cup is
brilliant. Sweden have to be favorites to retain their title as their line-up
of pros is unchanged and are used to the format and they are arguably
strengthened by their online qualifier representative. That said, the USA will take some stopping with the likes of
Gold, Ferguson Deeb and Brown on board while Great Britain boasts so many form
players in their team. Ireland
is a bit of a wildcard but there is little doubt that they have strength in
depth in their side while Germany
appear much stronger than previous years. The Dutch side led by Marcel have to
be seen as the underdogs – the names don't jump out as much at you as they do
with the other line-ups." a PartyPoker.com spokesman said.
Each
team will have a captain who’ll guide the rest of the players during the challenge;
the UK
team is commanded by the famous poker player Roland de Wolfe but also counts
with other experienced players including Joe Beevers and Ian Frazer. Nederland's representation will count with
Marcel Luske and Thierry Van den Berg among others. The German
team has also summoned the best of the best including the experimented Michael
Keiner and Andreas Krause. Finally the U.S team is probably the strongest team
and will count with the participation of Robert Williamson III, Jamie Gold, Chris
Ferguson, Freddy Deeb and Chad Brown.
