I just completed reading Brunson’s book called “Online Poker: Your Guide to Playing Online Poker Safely & Winning Money” Doyle Brunson renowned poker player, author, and two times World Series of Poker champ. Doyle Brunson’s previous books were “Super System: A Course in Power Poker” and the popular follow up “Super System II”.

This book covers a lot of different topics about Online Poker and I think it could be ideal for players new to the online tables as it explained the basics of how to get started and the specifics of the internet play. The book consists of several tips on where to learn, play and discuss online poker as well as information about some forums and sites frequented by Mike Caro and Doyle Brunson. It also explains how to download the poker software once you have found a site where you want to play, basic rules and procedures of play. The book also touches issues such as the basic differences between online poker and playing in a brick and mortar casino. As I mentioned before, the information gathered on the book is pretty well explained and can be a great step by step manual for beginners. However, since the book is a poker “101” introduction for new players, more experienced players and people looking for strategies and more technical information could be more than a little disappointed.

The book also provides some good tips for intermediate players that are more familiar to internet poker play. There are some great tools listed in the powerful game strategies section as well as the chapter titled “Winning game strategies”. Doyle reviews several of his poker tips that are useful online and in brick and mortar casinos also for tournament play in chapter 11 “Twenty-five online poker tips”. The last chapter of the book discusses other books and his view on the potential growth and long term view on internet poker.

I personally feel that this book is sometimes too basic and several of these tips can also be found in the Super Systems books. This may be a great tool for anyone who want to start playing online and has no experience whatsoever, however for players that have been playing on line for awhile it doesn’t cover any new material and at $14.95 U.S.  Poker fans and players who are looking for a more specific information may want to take a look to Dan Harrington’s book “How to play No Limit Hold’em Cash games” instead.
