I read this
book a few years back and was pleased with a lot of the topics covered by Mike
Caro in a short (150 pages) book. Often referred to as “pokers Mad Genius” Mike
Caro is a very prominent poker player/teacher in analyzing poker and has
collaborated on several poker books including Doyle Brunson's Super System.
This book
touches in basic form on several poker games including Seven-card stud, draw
poker and of course the most popular form of poker: Texas Hold’em. Some of the
topics covered in the book are useful today as they were when this book was
originally published in 2002. All the basics on how to play guidelines for
several different poker games are also included and covered in several sections
and chapters.
Caro’s
Fundamental Secrets of Winning Poker also features a fantastic section on money
(bankroll) management, a chapter on tells and Psychology including a final
winning affirmation. There are a lot of tips and strategy pointers throughout
the book on the different game types. There is also a segment dedicated to
tournament play advice.
I read this
book when I first started playing poker and began to read up on strategy and
improving my own game. I have always believed Mike Caro to be a founding father
for the way poker is played today and his Mike
Caro
University
is a tool to help people improve their game and helping to keep poker popular.
I enjoyed Caro’s Fundamental Secrets of Winning Poker and overall I feel
it is good for introduction for players wanting to learn the basics on more
than just Hold’em poker and who are looking for other games’ strategies. This
book may be too basic for intermediate and advanced players but for the
beginning player wanting to learn more about poker and improve from their
current level this is an ideal starter book.
