WDIAV Tournaments
The event is set up to resemble a poker tournament in that you can check, bet, call, raise and reraise on each shot on every hole. The only thing you can't do is check/raise. They even have a "Button" to signify which player bets first on every hole.
All players have a caddy who is better termed a financial advisor. The caddy does not really carry the clubs (these ARE high stakes poker players and they ride in CARTS). The caddy is there to discuss financial strategy with the betting, to help handicap the other players in their foursome, to help "somewhat" in the play of the game and to keep their player in the tournament. Yes, golf ability does count, but poker strategy is really important in winning the money.
How can a poor golfer beat a better one? Why was it that all the old time touring golf pros (the really big names) lost a fortune over the year to the Las Vegas poker players who just kept raising the stakes until the pro choked? The games at the Dunes were legendary for the amount of money wagered and lost with players like Mike Sexton, Doyle Brunson and others fleecing the pros year after year.
Check back for daily updates from what is happening on the course.
