Doyle Brunson's Super SystemThis is actually my second time reading this great poker book cover to cover and I’m glad I did because apparently I wasn’t paying attention the first time. This book was written primarily by Doyle “Texas Dolly” Brunson; however, all articles are a compilation of material written by professional poker players and top minds of the games. This book often referred to as “The Bible” for poker players is full of great tips and info in several poker game variations and provides some personal insight on Doyle’s life and his personal history of playing poker.

I could write for hours on the tremendous amount of material covered in this book which is the first volume of two, however I will just hit some high notes and summarize my opinion to recap.

Super System: a Course in Power Poker opens with Doyle’s own story and a glimpse into the early poker years playing with him and his friends. Great sections are reviewed by different authors. Mike Caro discusses Draw Poker and the late Chip Reese covers a chapter on Seven Card Stud. Lowball and Razz both topics are reviewed by Joey Hawthorne and Brunson discussing Hold’em, No Limit and Limit.

The book also includes a great glossary of poker terms and expressions. The book ends with a fantastic section on statistics covering Draw Poker and Hold’em in relation to winning percentages with starting hands to odds of making solid hands.

This book is simple, concise and well written and goes in to great detail on basics, playing and offers some great tips and strategy for all the games covered. I enjoyed Super System: a Course in Power Poker and recommend the book for all players wanting to further their poker education. Some readers may feel it is too long at a whopping 605 pages, however many pros have read and have made great comments about this book, so I guess it is a detail that any one should take in consideration. So even if your not a player that is in to reading books or learning from others I feel everyone should own a copy and refer to often during their poker career pro or players who are just looking for some action or that simply consider poker as an entertainment.

I hope that this has helped you to decide whether or not this is the book for you. I enjoy reading about poker and trying to use what I have learned to improve my game. I will continue reading books and reviewing them and hopefully help you to help yourself.
