The World Series of Golf is planning a new tournament for amateur players. The 2009 WSOG in Las Vegas will feature a $200,000 entry and $1.5 million prize for the tournament’s winner. The event will keep the same exact structure as the World Series of Golf, which was introduced for the first time in 2007.

The WSOG combines poker’s wagering format of Texas Hold’em with golf.  Players ante up on each golf hole, and then they can bet, raise, call, check or fold.  The objects is winning the pot on each hole and eliminate you’re the other players by winning all of their chips. This year’s tournament was sponsored by the online poker giant, Full Tilt Poker. A Michigan car salesman Andrew "AJ" Johnson defeated poker pros Allen Cunningham, Erick Lindgren and Dee Tiller, and Las Vegas' own Bill Spencer to win the $250,000 first prize of the 2008 FullTiltPoker.com World Series of Golf at the Paiute Golf Resort, one of the most attractive Las Vegas golf clubs.

The World Series of Golf organization says it is not impossible to find 25 players willing to pay the $200,000 entry, another five players will be picked randomly from a list of 125 players in the 2008 World Series of Golf. The WSOG will issue strict rules for the 2009 event, members of any professional golf association and players that have participated in two or more professional golf events or earned more than $50,000 in their golf career are not eligible for this competition.

''Clearly they want to play big, high stakes events. If you pay $200,000, you want to be able to at least double your money '' said Terry Leiweke, president of the World Series of Golf.
