Formed in
1991 in Berkeley, California by ex Operation Ivy members Tim Armstrong in the
guitar and vocals and Matt Freeman on the bass and Brett Reed on the drums, Rancid
is considered one of the founders of the neo-punk movement in the early 90’s beside
other bands such as Green Day and the Offspring. In 1992 Rancid released a
five-song debut EP on Lookout! Records, the band rapidly gained thousands of
fans and received lots of attention from the media for this E.P and later for
the band’s first official release simply called “Rancid” (1993).
The band’s
major success came in 1995 with the album “…And out came the wolves” in where
the Rancid revealed a revivalist punk-pop sound mixed with some fetish for
British punk bands such as the Clash, Sex Pistols, The Jam, The Specials and
The Adicts. The 1995 hit “Ruby Soho” was a solid TV and radio hit, launching Rancid
as one of the most acclaimed and noticeable punk bands in the 90’s. Following
the successful record's sales, Rancid launched “Life won’t wait” in 1998, an
album that mixed the classic Punk rock style of the band with Ska and even
Dancehall influences. The record incorporated a series off different artists including
the Jamaican Dancehall singer Buju Banton and Roger Miret from the hyper accelerated
hardcore band Agnostic Front.
Rancid
launched a series of albums in the next year, but in 2006 Brett Reed announced
that he was leaving the band after 15 years he was soon replaced by ex-Used
drummer Brandon Steineckert. And now, after almost five years since their last
release, Rancid is hitting the road in support of the upcoming album, which is
programmed to be ready by late June. Tickets for Rancid show in Las Vegas and other
