Rod
Stewart, the British singer and author of songs such as “Maggie May”,
"Tonight's the Night," and “Da Ya think I’m sexy is making another
Las Vegas appearance at the MGM Grand Garden Arena on August 2nd, 2008.
Stewart’s 2008 North American Tour will be the first after three years of
absence from the stage; the Tour will kick off in California on July 30th. The Tour
will later visit several cities within the U.S as well as Canada and Mexico.
Famous and
loved for his distinctive raspy voice and great versatility, Rod Stewart started
his career back in the 60’s, making him one of the longest running artists
around. Stewart begun his career with a strange fascination for Blues, Motown
and R&B music, his first introduction to music was in 1963 when he joined
an R&B group called Jimmy Powell & the Five Dimensions as a singer and
harmonica player. The same year he joined the Hoochie Coochie Men and recorded
the single"Good Morning Little Schoolgirl” in 1964. A few months after
recording its first single and failing in the charts, the band was renamed as “Steampacket”
and supported the Stones and other bands in the U.K. Later, Stewart worked with
other bands including Jeff Beck’s Band, The Faces and Cactus, but in 1969
Stewart recorded his first solo album titled “An old raincoat won’t let you
down” renamed “Rod Stewart Album” for
its release in the U.S. In 1970 Stewart launched his second album called “Gasoline
Alley”, followed by “Every picture tells a Story” in 1971. The album positioned
as a number one selling record in the U.S and in the U.K and the radio rapidly
started playing singles such as “Maggie May” and “Reason to Believe”.
After
several other records a numerous support tours, Steward finally reached the
fame with his 1976 album “Night on the Town” thanks to its single "Tonight's
the Night", which remained positioned as number one song in the U.S charts
for eight weeks. The 1978 “Blonds have more fun” sold over 4 million copies,
launching Stewart to notoriety and reserving him a spot in the Rock and Roll Hall
of Fame a few years and several albums after that. But after enjoying a jet set
lifestyle and selling millions of albums during the 80’s, Stewart decided to
give his a career a more mature twist in the 90’s, launching an MTV Unplugged
album, followed by the production called “If we fall in love Tonight”, which
explored a more refined and adult oriented sound. Stewart was introduced into
the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1994, then Stewart became an adult
contemporary favorite with the release of “Great American Songbook”, a series
of albums that featured Classic American Pop songs as well as collaborations
with producers and singers including Queen Latifah and Cher.
Rod Stewart
has been gone from the touring scene for a while and has just missed being able
to interact with the fans. Fans of Stewart know it takes him a little bit for his
vocals to warm up on stage, so he usually opens the show warming up his voice
with the crowd and having a little chat with the audience. Stewarts
performances have received lots of great comments, the singer normally performs
most of his greatest his including "This Old Heart of Mine", “Some
Guys Have All the Luck", “Baby Jean”, "Dirty Old Town” and "Downtown Train".
His on stage hasn’t changed that much over the years; he actually still like to
wear his 80's attire, including his tight leather pants and leather sequined
jacket. Stewart is backed up on stage by the "Rodettes" doing back
ground vocals, which from time to time stay on stage alone and perform a series
of solo acts and songs.
