Summer Entertainment Sale at Planet Hollywood Las Vegas auctions film memorabilia

Planet Hollywood Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas has auctioned a series of film memorabilia and other movie items during the Julien's Summer Entertainment Sale last Sunday. The "Julien's Summer Entertainment Sale" auctioned over 400 lots of rare movie memorabilia from Hollywood including two reels of 8mm color film footage recorded during the rolling of Marilyn Monroe’s film “The Misfits” , which was sold for almost $80 thousand. The footage called “On the Set with the Misfits” was shot by film extra Stanley Floyd Kilarr and features shots of Marilyn Monroe and co-stars Clark Gable, Montgomery Clift, Thelma Ritter and the film director John Huston. The film reels shows actors getting prepared before the scenes, talking on the set, and other between-takes activities. “The Misfits” was the last film made by Monroe and Gable. Gable died November 16^th, 1960, only a few weeks after the movie was filmed after a heat failure and Monroe died on August 5^th, 1962 under strange conditions.

Other items sold during the Summer Entertainment Sale at the Planet Hollywood Las Vegas hotel also included the disco ball used in John Travolta’s 70’s classic “Saturday Night Fever”, an original script of “The Godfather” autographed by Marlon Brando, Golden Hollywood photos and negatives, Several James Cagney suites, the camera that James Barris used to take shots of Marilyn Monroe, Play Boy wardrobe used by Carmen Electra, Mia St John and Anna Nicole Smith’s and other rare items including a suit used by the “King” Elvis Presley in the film “Viva Las Vegas”, Alfred Hitchcock's driver's license, and an original “King Kong” French film poster.

Anna Nicole ex boyfriend Larry Birkhead was present at the auction and paid nearly $3000 on lingerie wore by the Playboy playmate. Birkhead said he wanted to get something from Anna for his daughter Danielynn. Smith died of a pill overdose in February, 2007.

"I have a lot of history I have to put together that she doesn't really know about. Playboy was such a big part of Anna's career." said Birkhead.
