2008 WSOP Main Event Day 1B

The 2008 World Series of Poker Main Event resumed on Day 1B with the notable eliminations of  Ted Forrest, Andy Black, Daniel Negreanu, Tuan Le, Kenny Tran, Scott Fischman, Greg Raymer, David Bach, Humberto Brenes, Jamie Gold, Orel Hersheiser, Ross Boatman and Sam Grizzle. Andy Black was busted after he moved all in with a pair of Jacks and his hand was mucked by two pairs (7’s and 5’s). Negreanu also faced a premature elimination when his pair of 6’s walked was mucked by a pair of 9’s, leaving the spectators on the rail disconcerted and disappointed (Negreanu was listed by PartyBets amongst the top 10 favorites to win the event).

Another prominent elimination during Day 1B was Kenny Tran; he called all in with K-J-3 on the board, showing K-10 for top pair while the player on seat 1 showed 6-4 for a flush draw. The turn was the Q, giving the player on seat 1 a flush. The river was the 2 and Tran saw how his last chance to stay alive at the event was shredded.

The 2002 Main event Champ, Greg Raymer was also in the list of eliminations, Raymer moved all in with Q-8 after the flop came 8-5-5 on the flop. Raymer was called by Kai-Are Hauge with pair of Jacks, the turn was 2 and the river came 7 and Hague sent Raymer to the rail, moving up to 37,000.

By level 3, Full Tilt sponsored pro Patrik Antonius took the chip lead with 78.000 and kept the first position for almost two levels. At the end of the Day, Antonius finished in 4^th position in the chip count with 116,000. Day 1b was a surrealistic experience, the combination of the 4^th of July celebrations and fireworks, the sound of the chips and the unaccountable murmurs filled the atmosphere of the Amazon Poker Room, giving the second day of action an intense but celebrative ambience in where many notable pros, former main event champions got engaged in the battle for the most important bracelet of all.

At the end of the day, only 623 players survived and advance to the next day of play, the action closed with Ben Sarnoff leading the chip count with165.000, followed by Robert Mizrachi in second position with 131.000 and Nicholas Caltabiano in third spot with 120.000. .
