Texas Hold'em might be the most popular game of poker in the
world. It is certainly one of the most
well-known, popular with all walks of life in players of all ages and sexes. But the explosion of interest is largely due
to the exposure of televised programs including the World Series of poker and
celebrity poker tournaments. These
celebrity poker tournaments and televised events have garnered a tremendous
amount of attention and publicity for the poker games both online and off. Texas Hold'em has
proven to be one of the most popular games of poker that is played on a regular
basis in online casinos as well as established brick-and-mortar gaming halls
and casinos.
Texas Hold'em
is played with a standard 52 card deck and starts with two different
blinds. The blinds are basically the
preliminary wagers created by two of the players involved in the game to
stimulate the game into action. Without
these bets, there would be no reason for players to wager at all, necessitating
the ahead of time arrangement of the big and small blinds. Whichever player has the dealer button,
indicated by the usual small disk shaped object, the player to the left is
required to ante up half the minimum wager and the player further to the left
is required to put in the amount of the minimum wager. Once the dealer begins to deal, he starts
with the player to the left, the small blind, and comes around to the rest of
the players eventually in turn. Dealing
the cards with their face down and leaving the hole card for the player to
inspect. Five cards are dealt face up in
the middle of the table and are available for use by all players. These five cards make up available cards for
your hand. Between the cards that you
are dealt and the cards on the table, you win by creating the best possible
poker hand and beating the other players at the table.
Wagering begins with the
player immediately on the big blind's left-hand side, also referred to as being
under the gun. There are three choices
that you can take when you are in this first position. Folding, opening for the minimum, also known
as limping, or opening for a raise. If
this first player folds, then the player after him has the same choices
available. Folding, opening for the
minimum or opening for a raise. If this
first position player happens to open for the minimum or open for a raise, then
the next player must either fold, call and match the wager of the previous
player, or raise the wager and increase the bet made by the previous
player. Every player has these three
options.
