Party Poker announces Women’s World Open II

Official WWP sponsor, PartyPoker has announced that the second edition of the annual Women’s World Open will kick off on Friday, October 3rd, 2008, and run until Monday, October 6th, 2008 in London, England. PartyPoker’s WWO II will meet 36 players from all around the world battle to play for a share of a $108,000 prize. The tournament’s buy in is set at $3,000 and will pay a first prize of $50,000. The list of players confirmed at the event include Jen Mason, Late Night Poker finalist Maria Demetriou, Xuyen Bad Girl” Pham, former European Ladies champion Jackie Meecham, Katharine Hartree, comedienne Lucy Porter, Michelle Orpe, Shelley Rubenstein, Christine Klecz and Stefanie Bergener, former PartyPoker.com World Open winner Pippa Flanders, as well as last year’s champion Bev Pace.
“Women’s tournaments are good for getting more ladies interested in poker. The standard is no different to a mixed sex game but they do encourage some to come forward who wouldn’t do otherwise.” said the WWO defending champion, Bev Pace.
This the first women's tournament featured an exceptional line-up of players including Liz Lieu, Jennifer Tilly, Shannon Elizabeth, Katharine Hartree, Maria Demetriou, Xuyen “Bad Girl” Pham, Pippa Flanders,
European Ladies champion Jackie Meecham and Lucy Rokach and received a huge interest from broadcasters and poker news sites from all over the world before the first card was dealt and this year is no different, according to the event’s organizers, every minute of the tournament will be recorded for subsequent distribution in the UK next year and international distribution. All commentaries for the TV broadcast will be provided by Jesse May.
“Last year’s champion Bev Pace is hotly tipped to run well again this year. Most pundits are also pointing to Jen Mason and Maria Demetriou as ones to watch.” said a Party Poker spokesman.
