Las Vegas mayor pays tribute to women in poker
Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman has joined the effort of several corporations and organizations by declaring June 5th as the official “Women in Poker Hall of Fame Day” in Las Vegas. The celebration will pay tribute and acknowledge the work and contributions made by women in the poker and gaming industry.
The official WiPHOF Day coincides with the Women in Poker Hall of Fame annual dinner and dance event scheduled to kick off at 7:00 pm at the Golden Nugget Hotel and Casino in Downtown Las Vegas. The event Emceed by Mike Sexton and presented by High Society Spirits and sponsored by Rockwell Time will celebrate the career accomplishments of three new inductees: June Field, Jan Fisher, and Cyndy Violette.
On Thursday, June 4th, a “Shuffle Up for Poker Gives” charity tournament hosted by Mike Sexton will start at 7 PM, on Thursday, June 4th. The winner of the event will get a cash prize and a seat at the 2010 World Poker Tour Celebrity Invitational event. The remaining 50% of the prize pool will be distributed amongst the top ten finishers, in addition, all participants will receive a commemorative gift. All proceeds from this event will go to PokerGives.com, a non profit organization founded by Mike Sexton, Linda Johnson, Jan Fisher, and Lisa Tenner as a way to help several worthwhile charity organizations, including the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund, Paralyzed Veterans of America, and Special Olympics.
