Roger Federer wasn't the only person shocked by his loss to Juan Martin del Potro in this year's US Open Final, gamblers were also hit hard with the unexpected outcome. On the other hand, sportsbetting websites that offered odds on the event reported record winnings for the final match.

Federer suffered his first US Open loss since 2003, and this was one of the reasons he was such a huge favorite for the match against del Potro. The 2009 US Open Final earned William Hill record winnings of an incredible $1.2 Million.

Will Hill spokesman Rupert Adams stated that one person wagered 75,000 pounds (over $123,000) on Federer with 11-10 odds. Many gamblers also suffered big losses on the live betting since Federer really looked like an easy winner in the first set that we won 6-3. During the second set of the US Open match the odds were set as heavy as 1 pound for every 33 pounds wagered.

This was the first win for the Argentine del Potro against Federer after six failed attempts, and also his first Grand Slam final. This win marks the first time that a player has ever beaten Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer in the same Grand Slam tennis event.
