Whether you’re traveling to Las Vegas, Atlantic City, or Tunica Mississippi, a trip to the casino can be a fun and profitable event. No matter where you are the casinos all have some tricks of the trade they use to encourage its visitors to hit the gaming floor.

Perhaps the most prominent way casinos encourage you to gamble is by offering comps. Comps are complimentary gifts given to players. Casinos all offer a players card which is used to track how much each patron is gambling and the level of comps offered is commensurate. If a player brings enough action to the casino they may be offered free meals or stays at the casino. The ultimate goal of the casino is to get players to the tables or slot machines. By providing comps it adds an impression of value and encourages brand loyalty by players.

Once a player is checked into the hotel if they do a quick scan of the room they’ll often find it is nicely appointed and comfortable. If you turn on the television though you will probably find the viewing options are limited. Casinos do not want you lounging inside a comfortable room watching television. Every hour you watch television is an hour you do not have money on the tables.

After heading down to the gaming floor you may find yourself subconsciously looking around at eye level. The flashing lights and sounds of slot machines fill the air. The sound of clanging coins in slot trays is loud and easily distinguished. If you were to look down at the floor you would see some of the ugliest carpet ever made. The casino wants a patron’s attention up on the tables and slot machines where all the action is.

You will also notice that without a watch or cell phone, figuring out what time it is inside a casino is nearly impossible. It is brightly colored all the time and if you were to spend eight hours inside you wouldn’t know if it was day or night outside. Trying to leave a casino may also be a tricky proposition as the gaming floor may be arranged to steer you in certain directions. Caesars Palace in Las Vegas is well known for funneling players through what seems to be a maze.
