Professional golfer and 14 time golf champ Tiger Woods, has recently rejected a $75 million sponsorship deal offered by online poker site Paddy Power, to represent the brand for a five year period.
Paddy Power, a gambling, sports betting and poker site focused on Irish and European customers, expected Woods to take the five year contract. After his refusal, the company said they are planning to put a much higher offer on the table.
“Paddy Power remains keen to work with Tiger Woods, and will re-engage with IMG. An enhanced offer will be made, the details of which will remain confidential.” commented a representative from the the Dublin-based poker site.
At least six major sponsor have retired their support to Woods since details of his affairs surfaced at the end of last year. Before the incident, Woods earned over $100 million each year in endorsements. Since then, companies such as Accenture, AT&T, Gatorade, Buick and Gillette have withdrawn their sponsorship deals following the revelations concerning his affairs and the subsequent scandals.
