Although men still
represent a hardcore group who play regularly, women now have carved a big chunk
of gambling dollars revenue. Experts say that the
demographics have changed, with the advent of the internet, it’s now much
easier for women to bet without having to go into a smoky betting shop; a game
of Texas
Hold’em at home is a lot more digestible.
The huge demand for gaming
is increasingly coupled to an increase of women bettors. As much as 60% of
online bettors are now women. This trend will likely will increase as women
become an important target for casinos.
Card games, which promise
cash prizes for the best players are the favorites. Poker is growing steadily as
women are holding their own in this game of skill. Being more successful and
underestimated than many of their male counterparts, women are quickly joining
the ranks of poker pros.
New research from Cambridge
Professor, Simon Baron-Cohen suggests that men and women show different
personality traits, undoubtedly influencing how both men and women play poker.
Women tend to be better at
decoding non-verbal communication, picking up subtle nuances and judging a
person’s character. Males show more direct aggression while women tend to show
indirect aggression after having carefully assessed the situation.
