ESPN's 2009 WSOP Main Event coverage gets Emmy nomination

As announced this week by the National Academy of Television Arts and Science, ESPN's coverage of the 2009 World Series of Poker Main Event Final Table has been nominated for a Sports Emmy Award for the second consecutive year.
The broadcast, hosted by Lon McEachern and Norman Chad, is one of 54 nominations earned by ESPN, Inc this year. The nomination was for ESPN's same day coverage of the 2009 World Series of Poker Final Table in the category of Outstanding Live Event Turnaround. Also nominated in the same category are ESPN2's Bassmaster Classic, CBC/Versus' Tour de France coverage, Speed and NASCAR Media's Inside the Headsets 25th All Star Race, and the PGA Tour's Inside the PGA Tour Deutsche Bank Championship. The winners will be announced on Monday, April 26th, 2010.
ESPN recorded, produced and aired a total of 31 episodes of WSOP coverage from July to November, 2010. The Main event coverage began on August 18th an culminated on November 10th with the final Heads Up Match. Millions of viewers around the world saw how 21-year-old poker player Joe Cada defeated Darvin Moon in the finals heads up for the bracelet and $8.5 million on ESPN on Tuesday, November 10th at 9:00 pm ET.
Last year, Harrah's Entertainment, owner and operator of the World Series of Poker and ESPN signed a seven-year broadcast agreement to broadcast the tournament series until 2017. The new deal is set to begin in 2011, after the current broadcast deal expires.
