Alicia Keys

Born Alicia Augello Cook in 1981, New Yorker Alicia Keys rose to stardom in 2001 after releasing her debut album Songs in A Minor, which featured the hits "Fallin", "A Woman's Worth", "How Come You Don't Call Me" and "Girlfriend". This album sold over 12 million copies worldwide and earned the musician a total of five Grammy Awards in 2002. Following up on her debut success, Keys then released The Diary of Alicia Keys in 2003, which also sold around 8 million copies worldwide and earned Keys another four Grammys in 2005.

Keys began playing piano at the age of seven and by the age of twelve, she was already enrolled in the Professional Performing Arts School in New York. She graduated from this school at the early age of 16 and by this time, she was already impressing her peers and record executives. Keys was signed to the record label Columbia Records at the same time she began her studies at Columbia University. After only four weeks of school, Keys decided to quit her studies and dedicate herself to music full-time.

More recently, Alicia Keys can be found collaborating with Jay-Z, Alejandro Sanz and record producer Swiss Beatz. In 2009, it was made public that Keys was romantically involved with Swiss Beatz, and in 2010, the artist was pregnant with their child. They then wed in July of 2010 and by June of the same year, she gave birth to their son Egypt Daoud Ibarr Dean in New York City.
