Rise Against

Formed in Chicago, Ill. in 1999, Rise Against is a punk rock group consisting of Tim McIlrath on vocals and lead vocals and rhythm guitar, Zach Blair on lead guitar and backing vocals, Joe Principe on bass guitar and backing vocals and Brandon Barnes on percussion. Rise Against is well-known for being political activists, promoting animal rights and practicing vegetarianism. All members of the group, excluding Barnes are straight edge.

The musical style of Rise Against has been described as hardcore punk, melodic hardcore, or punk rock and rely on old Cave In, Face to Face, Screeching Weasel and Down By Law as their major musical influences. The group rose to fame with their major label debut Siren Song of the Counter Culture, which led to a worldwide tour and positive reviews by critics.

On March 15, 2011, Rise Against released their sixth studio album entitled Endgame. The latest album by the group touches on current events such as Hurricane Katrina and the BP Oil Spill. Rise Against also has a tour planned for 2011 with planned shows throughout South America, Europe and the U.S.
