Soundgarden

Formed in Seattle, Washington in 1984 and fronted by lead singer Chris Cornell alongside lead guitarist Kim Thayil, bassist Hiro Yamamoto (later replaced by Ben Shepherd) and drummer Matt Cameron, Soundgarden emerged during the grunge era and went on to become one of the biggest groups of the 90s. They eventually went on to sell over 9 million albums in the U.S. and approximately 21 million worldwide.

Soundgarden found huge commercial success with the release of their 1994 album Superunknown, which contained the hits "Black Hole Sun", "Spoonman", "The Day I Tried to Live", "My Wave" and "Fell on Black Days". This was the group's fourth album after releasing Ultramega OK in 1988, Louder Than Love in 1989 and Badmotorfinger in 1991.
Soundgarden won two Grammy Awards for the singles "Spoonman" and "Black Hole Sun" and Superunknown was also nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Rock Album in 1995.

In 1997, Soundgarden announced their breakup after internal conflicts among band members escalated and it was until 2010 that the group decided it was time that they reunite and later announced their upcoming tour. For their 2011 Tour, the group will be joined by Coheed and Cambria, The Mars Volta, Queens of the Stone Age, Mastodon and Meat Puppets.
