U2

U2 are an Irish rock band with Bono on vocals and guitar, The Edge on guitar, keyboards and vocals, Adam Clayton on bass and Larry Mullen Jr. on drums and percussion. The group began as a post-punk experimental project that later became a hit-making, pop-rock staple all throughout the 80s, with their highlight album The Joshua Tree launching U2's career as one of the best-selling groups of all time. Their trademark sound and live shows have also earned the group the distinction of winning more Grammy Awards than any other band in history - 22 in all.

U2's debut album, Boy, was released in 1980 and since this classic album they have released a total of 12 studio albums including the hugely-popular Rattle and Hum in 1988, Achtung Baby in 1991 and All That You Can't Leave Behind in 2000, just to name a few of the group's highlight albums. Constantly poking fun at pop culture, the group always draws attention to their concert tours, such as the elaborate multimedia event-Zoo TV from 1992 to 1993 and the sarcastic Pop Mart in 1997, which made fun of commercialism in first-world countries.

The group's most recent album, No Line on the Horizon, was released in 2009 and made way for the U2 360° Tour in 2009. This concert tour offers audiences an innovative musical experience, with the largest stage structure ever utilized and a rotating audience/stage configuration that allows concert-goers to view U2 perform from all sides. Due to a back injury suffered by Bono, U2 was forced to withdraw from the 2010 Glastonbury Festival and also postponed the 2010 leg of their North American tour. The same year, a total of 8 of U2's songs appeared on Rolling Stone's list of The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time, confirming their place in the history books as one of the most successful groups ever.
