Willie Nelson

Willie Nelson is a country music singer, songwriter, actor, activist, author and poet. Born in 1933 in Abbott, Texas, Nelson became successful during the Outlaw Movement of the 1960s and attained wide recognition upon the release of his album Red Headed Stranger in 1975. This album is listed on Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time and number one on CMT's 40 Greatest Albums in Country Music. Throughout his almost 60-year career, Nelson has recorded a total of 67 studio albums, 97 singles, 7 live albums and 37 compilation albums.

Aside from his successful career as a recording artist, Nelson is also a well-known figure of marijuana and bio-fuel activism. He is the co-chair of the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws or NORML, which is a group responsible for promoting marijuana legalization in the U.S. Nelson is also the owner of a bio-diesel brand called Willie Nelson Biodiesel, which is a fuel created from vegetable oil. Additionally, Nelson is also the co-founder and the president of the popular concert series Farm Aid. This concert series benefits family farmers in the U.S. and has featured artists such as Neil Young, John Mellencamp, Dave Matthews and Bob Dylan among others.

In April of 2010, Willie Nelson recorded and released the album Country Music, which is the first traditional album that the singer has ever recorded. Country Music was also nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Americana Album. In 2011, Nelson embarked on his Country Throwdown Tour, featuring Randy Houser, Jamey Johnson and Lee Brice among others. The Country Throwdown Tour will visit cities across the U.S. including Philadelphia, Nashville, Denver and many more.
