5 Movies Filmed in Las Vegas in the 80s
In this third list of movies filmed in Las Vegas, we will look at the decade of the 80s. Not as many big hits came out of this decade compared to the 90s and 00s, but there were some high-budget action and drama films shot in Las Vegas during this period.
Rain Man 1988
Starring Tom Cruise and Dustin Hoffman as brothers, this critically-acclaimed drama takes the characters to Las Vegas, specifically Caesars Palace, where they try to beat the casino's blackjack tables by counting cards.
Above the Law 1988
Even though this movie starring Steven Seagal takes place in Chicago, some of the scenes were filmed at the November Comdex Expo in Las Vegas. This film also stars Sharon Stone and Pam Grier.
Over the Top 1987
Written and starring Sylvester Stallone as a truck driver turned arm wrestler, trying to win back his estranged son, "Over the Top" takes Stallone's character to Las Vegas to compete in the World Arm Wrestling Championships. Portions of the film were shot at The Las Vegas Hilton.
Rocky IV 1985
Another Stallone film shot in Las Vegas, but this time as the iconic boxer Rocky. At the beginning of this movie, Stallone is shot at the old MGM Grand (now Bally's).
Heat 1986
Starring Burt Reynolds as a bodyguard working in Las Vegas, "Heat" is the story of Nicholas Escalante who has the goal of leaving Las Vegas to move to Venice, Italy. The entire movie utilizes the city of Las Vegas as its backdrop.
