Trump Hotel
This place is really nice but it lacks a casino....We were in Las Vegas in Sept. 2010 and we were hoping for the casino and to our surprise it was not there.
The Price Was Right
We spent 2 nights at the Trump International Hotel in March. The first impression is that you're in a high-rise condo rather than a hotel, which reflects the Trump's history as a failed residential project. The lobby is a massive open space, with registration at one end and a piano bar at the other. The space in between is pretty much unadorned and looked like a great place to kick a soccer ball or toss a frisbee. The rooms were quite generic and not very soundproof; there just wasn't much memorable about the place.
We were there for a family reunion, and we met around the outdoor pool which is located on a lower floor (above the parking deck, I think). Since it was March, it was cool and breezy so we pretty much had the pool to ourselves. They did have poolside bar service (sort of). That was the only interaction we had with the Trump as far as food and beverages; there is no coffee bar or other breakfast spot in the hotel, so it's either expensive room service or the Starbuck's at the mall.
The real challenges began when we headed out to the strip. Despite it's address on Fashion Show Drive, the Trump International is a good 1/2-mile off of the strip, and the sidewalks were torn up in several places so we ended up walking in the street for a good part of the journey. Once you get to the strip, you're still north of the Fashion Show Mall (near the entrance to the Wynn), so heading to the attractions and casinos to the south means walking even further. While a visit to Las Vegas often entails a lot of walking, adding the extra mile at each end to stay at the Trump really adds up, and needs to be taken into account even if you're travelling by cab (both in terms of time and extra miles on the meter).
Everything considered, the Trump had one main attraction, which was a the lowest room rate around for a reasonably modern hotel. Taking into account its location and lack of a casino, it really doesn't work as part of the "Las Vegas Experience", since it lacks the "Wow" elements found at other high-end hotels on the strip.
