Wire to Wire 2007 Champion Rises: Jerry Yang

Last years World Series of Poker took 13 hours to complete and the action unraveled at this years 2007 World Series of Poker at an alarming rate in the beginning until it hit 4 handed when it came to a crawl. Completion from start to finish took 14 hours for the 2007 World Series of Poker Champion to rise to stardom.

It was one and half hours into the final event when the player Philip Hilm was the first to be eliminated. Hilm came into the final day as the chip leader and was the first to be eliminated by Jerry Yang who was the player who came into the event as the player with the second lowest stack at the table. Philip Hilm from Cambridge, UK went out in 9th place and collected $585.934. The hand he went out on was 85 of diamonds when he pushed all-in against Yang’s raise on the flop. Philip never improved to survive when the flop was two suited diamonds with a 5 for a pair showing and a flush draw. Jerry Yang won the hand with AK when the flop came with a king to end the hand for Phil Hilm.
And then there were eight.

The next player to be eliminated was Lee Watkinson. Jerry Yang has claimed another victim with A9 against Lee’s A7. Lee pushed all-in after Jerry raised and Jerry Yang called and won the pot with A high with his 9 playing after the board never improved for Lee. Lee Watkinson from Cheney, Washington cashes $585,699 for his eighth place finish. Jerry Yang is the 800 pound gorilla with almost half the chips in play two hours into the main event table after eliminating Philip Hilm and Lee Watkinson.
And then there were seven.

The next player to be eliminated was Lee Childs, who was taken down by Jerry Yang who had eliminated the two prior players. Yang from his native country of Loas is on a mission to take them all down with his huge chip lead. Lee Childs from Reston,VA cashes 705,229 for his seventh place finish. Yang moved all-in with J8 against Childs KJ who had much the better hand. Needless to say the board showed a pair of fours and the turn brought an eight and that gave Yang two pair and Childs never improved. Amazing thing Jerry Yang now has three players under his belt and has eliminated all within two and a half hours of play into this 2007 Main Event. They call it running over the table.
And now there were six.

The pace slowed down and then four hours into the final table they had their sixth place elimination it was Hevad Khan who was eliminated by the 800 pound gorilla at the table named Jerry Yang. Yang now has four knock outs and his chip stack seemed beyond any ones comprehension. Hevad Khan from Poughkeepsie, NY cashed $1,255,069 for his sixth place finish at the 2007 World Series of Poker final event. Khan re-raised Yang with AQ and Yang put him all-in with JJ needless to say the board paired and no help to Hevad to improve his hand. Jerry Yang continued his reign with about 73 million in chips at the table. This was Jerry Yang’s first World Series of Poker appearance. Yang lives in California with his wife and six kids and is a psychologist. All players remaining are now part of the millionaires club.
And now there were five.

With all Americans eliminated from the 2007 Main Event final table the five remaining players represented are Tuan Lam- Canada, Jerry Yang- Loas, Raymond Rahme-South Africa, Alex Kravchenko- Russia and Jon Kalmer- UK.
Five hours into the 2007 Main Event and we have our fifth place finisher. Jon Kalmer was eliminated by Raymond Rahme. Jon Kalmer from the UK cashes $1,255,069 for his 5th place finish at the 2007 World Series of Poker final event. Raymond raises pre-flop with JJ and Jon calls with AK. Jon Kalmer’s hand never improved and he was eliminated giving Rahme a second place in the chip count.
And then there were four.

The only bracelet winner in the four remaining players is the Russian Alex Kravchenko. Alex had an amazing run at this years World Series of Poker winning a bracelet for Omaha 8 and also he had five other cashes.
Most of the time before the fourth player was out the action at the table had slowed down. The action was limited to blinds and antes being taken down with the exception of a few key hands that went to the river. The chip swing began funneling from the chip leader to the other three players and soon the money was not so one sided. Twelve hours of play and five hours before the last player was out, the chips on the table were closer to the leader Jerry Yang who no longer seemed invincible.

Our fourth place finisher is Alex Kravchenko who was taken out by Jerry Yang
Alex Kravchenko from Russia cashed $1,852,721. Alex rose with AK and Yang pushed all-in with 88. Yang flopped a set of eights and Alex never improved to comeback to beat him. Alex was the short stack at the table when he was eliminated. Jerry Yang now reigns. And then there were three.

Third place finisher also fell to Jerry Yang and it was Raymond Rahme from South Africa. Yang raised on the button Rahme re-raised and Yang called. Rahme has a great hand KK and Yang has A5. After the board showed an ace and Yang moved all-in and Rahme called. Rahme never improved his hand after the flop and he was eliminated. Raymond Rahme from South Africa cashed $3,048,025 for his third place finish.
And then there were two.

Jerry Yang has one player left to beat, and it is Tuan Lam. The chip difference between the two players was huge; if Jerry Yang can eliminate Tuan Lam he will have gone wire to wire with the chip lead and eliminated all 8 players at this years final table of the World Series of Poker. The winner to rise in the 2007 World Series of Poker took 14 hours from start to finish.

Tuan Lam was eliminated in second when his AQ came up against Jerry’s 88 to beat him and send him home with $4,840,981. The flop did come with a Q for Tuan to take the lead but Jerry took it down when he made a straight on the river to win his bracelet and $8.25 million.

And then we had a winner after 6358 players later.
