What is Canyoneering all about?Traveling down (which is a whole lot more fun than climbing up) canyons using a variety of techniques that may include hiking, scrambling, climbing, jumping, rappelling, and/or swimming. If it sounds like a lot of fun, that’s because it is! Here in Southern Nevada along the Colorado River we have some of the prettiest slot canyons around. Come join us on one of our canyoneering adventures and experience the thrill. Canyoneering AdventureAfter some basic instruction in canyoneering techniques they will take you down a moderate yet exciting and exhilarating slot canyon. You will experience multiple rappels up to 100’ in height as well as have ample opportunity to do rock climbing and scrambling. No experience is necessary, only a desire to try something new and have a really good time. Basic athletic ability and conditioning are required - you will need to be able to hike at least 5 miles and ascend 1000’ in elevation during the course of the trip - as well as not having a fear of heights (although a healthy respect of heights is always a good thing). Half day canyon adventure 4-6 hrs Advanced and Extreme Canyoneering AdventureBoth of these adventures require advanced canyoneering techniques. Unless you have an advanced or technical canyoneering certificate from the American Canyoneering Association or have received previous instruction from them, they will need to check out your canyoneering skills in a half-day ground session the day before your outing. On these canyoneering adventures you will experience multiple rappels up to 300’ in height as well as down climbing, rope ascents, pot hole escapes and guided rappels. You will need to be able to hike at least 5 miles and ascend 1900’ in elevation during the course of the trip. Basic athletic ability and conditioning are required as well as not having a fear of heights (although a healthy respect of heights is always a good thing). Advanced canyoneering 6-10 hrs Extreme canyoneering 6-10 hrs DesertRats Affiliated Tour ServicesEach business has their own specialties and at Desert RATS has to do with the canyoneering, kayaking, canoeing, hiking, backpacking and camping realms in the Las Vegas area.
